In 2021-22, NTE identified 6 parents and caregivers (some of whom are ParentChild+ alumnae) to participate in the SPAN Parent Advocacy Network’s workshop titled Empowering Women in Community Leadership for Healthier Families. 

This workshop is focused on developing family leadership in Newark to empower caregivers to serve in decision-making groups.

Families as Decision Makers, developed in 2022 by NTE, seeks to extend the learning and work of graduates of the workshop by building a pipeline of family leadership by convening monthly meetings of family leaders, honing their leadership and outreach skills, and having them connect families within their sphere of influence with information, events and supports available through NTE and our partners in Newark and Essex county. The group of women is further tasked with preparing a set of recommendations guiding the work of NTE, with the overarching goal of improving the conditions for all children across home, school, and community.
