Adults must not only learn how to recognize signs of mental health challenges in children, but they must also learn what they should do to address arising issues so they can create a safe and supportive learning environment for all. Through the “TODAY Matters: Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Present.” webinar series, the Newark Trust for Education has the goal of ensuring that every student comes to school ready to learn and is well supported.

The next TODAY Matters webinar session will be held on Wednesday, April 6 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm and will address how educators and parents or caregivers can create emotionally safe spaces for students, as well as how they should respond to recognized signs of mental health distress in learners, which was discussed in the last webinar of this series. Clinician Mario A. Menjiva will be sharing a presentation on the topic along with a special guest, FACE Specialist of Achieve Charter School Gia Lusk. Participating organizations include South Ward Promise Neighborhood, Teach For America New Jersey, North Star Academy, Great Oaks Legacy Charter School, and Communities That Care.
