Crystal D. Williams was born in New York, N.Y.,before moving to Newark after the sixth grade. A proud resident of the Central Ward ever since, Crystal attended the original Newton Street School before becoming a part of the first graduating class of Chad Science Academy.

Although Crystal has been a dedicated employee of Verizon Communications for nearly 25 years, her favorite role is that of motherhood. Crystal is the proud and loving mother of 7 beautiful children, all of whom were raised and attended schools in Newark. The ability to manage the lives of 7 children while achieving her personal and professional goals demonstrates Crystal’s ability to be highly organized and extremely efficient with her time.

When Crystal thinks about her experience raising her family in Newark as a single parent, she notes, “When having children of my own. I had a plan in place. No longer was life about me it was about us. How would moving benefit us? How would this school benefit us? How would this sport benefit us? Consistently the focus was on my children. Their betterment, their achievement, their growth. I want to bring the focus of this city back to where it truly belongs…on the children.”

Whether volunteering on Verizon Communication’s New Vision Pioneers (Education Chair 2016-2020), being a team mom for the Brick City Lions Youth Football Organization (2019 & 2020), coaching in La Liga Roberto Clemente (2015-2018), being a mentor at Essex County Juvenile Detention Center (2017) or advocating for educational equity for children in the city of Newark at numerous Trenton statehouse rallies, Crystal has demonstrated actions that back up her words.

In addition to spending her time promoting positive experiences and outcomes for children in the community, Crystal has been a member of Clearview Baptist Church, where she helped to lead activities in the Seniors and Women’s Ministries, and is a graduate of Essex County College (AAS, Criminal Justice 2003) and the French Culinary Institute (2005).

Crystal believes that it takes a village to raise a child and believes she can help strengthen the city of Newark by serving this city as a member of the Newark Board of Education. You can learn more about Crystal D. Williams by visiting www.crystalwilliamsa6.com.
