It’s National Storytelling Week! National Storytelling Week is celebrated by all ages--from folklore to fairy tales, figments and phantoms--a good storyteller conjures intrigue. To celebrate this week, we’re sharing some of NTE’s favorite books enjoyed by families in our Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP).

Newark Pre-K enrollment is OPEN now through February 15th!!

Enroll in free pre-k to give your child the early learning advantage that leads to success in school, college and life!

Newark residents have various pre-k options to choose from including district schools, charter schools, and community-based providers as well as Head Start programming.  

All pre-k programs offer small class sizes, proven curriculum, and certified staff. Children receive high quality learning in reading and writing, math, science, visual & performing arts, as well as health, physical education and social living development.

In-District and Charter Schools: Apply online at or in-person by completing a paper application at any district school. Deadline to apply is Friday, February 15th!! 

Community-Based Pre-K Provider: Apply in-person at the provider location on ongoing basis.

Princeton Awards Cash Prize to Students Who Improve Race Relations, Apply Now!

In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Princeton Prize in Race Relations recognizes and rewards high school students who have had a significant positive effect on race relations in their schools or communities through their volunteer efforts.

Prize recipients receive a cash prize of $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid weekend to a Symposium on Race at Princeton University where they will meet and engage with other Prize recipients from across the country.

Recipients of the Princeton Prize in Race Relations have stood up to intolerance, worked towards greater inclusivity, and encouraged understanding and harmony in their communities. Some have even been recognized by President Obama for their efforts.

SPECIAL RELEASE: Safe & Supportive Education White Paper

The Newark Trust for Education is proud to re-issue Safe and Supportive Education: Shaping School Climate through Social-Emotional Learning and Trauma Informed Approaches in Newark Public Schools. First issued in May of 2018, this revised report includes a new executive summary and insightful commentary on the term trauma informed care, while examining the role of programs and interventions aimed at creating safe and supportive schools across Newark.

Trust Matters: South Ward Promise Neighborhood


Newark Trust for Education is proud to support the launch of the South Ward Promise Neighborhood. We’re bringing even more programs and resources from around the city to the South Ward to support our kids. Through a partnership led by the South Ward Children’s Alliance, we were awarded a landmark $30 million Promise Neighborhood grant earlier this year! Since then we’ve been hard at work – with partners from around the city – thinking through additional ways we can continue to invest in our families through the South Ward Promise Neighborhood. We're excited to share that we’re ready to launch.

Together, we are working toward a South Ward where each and every child has an unimpeded path to unlocking their limitless potential.

Announcing the Safe and Supportive Schools Summit 2018

The Newark Trust for Education is excited to announce the first Safe and Supportive Schools Citywide Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a cocktail reception following. This special event is an opportunity for stakeholders to:

  • Share local and national best practices on whole school/district wide approaches to trauma-informed care and social emotional learning.
  • Network across sectors and wards.
  • Engage with like minds around the notion that social emotional competencies and trauma have an impact on learning.
  • Learn about the positive work being done in Newark Public Schools.

NPS Superintendent Search: Survey Deadline Extended!

The deadline to complete the Superintendent Search Survey has been extended to March 12th!

As the Board of Education begins the process of searching for the first Superintendent of the Newark Public Schools to be hired under full local control, they recognize the importance of capturing multiple perspectives. As an initial step in the process, the search committee is seeking input from the Newark community on the desired characteristics and skills sought after in the next Superintendent.
