MISSION: The Newark Trust (The Trust) is an independent non-profit dedicated to coordinating and focusing ideas, people, and resources on the efficient and effective delivery of a quality public education to all children in Newark; and to creating broad and shared accountability for student success across multiple stakeholders.
VISION: The Trust envisions a public education infrastructure that leverages the wide array of opportunities available to the young people of Newark, effectively creating positive conditions for learning that help young people meet rigorous academic outcomes, develop strong socio-emotional skills, and have access to high-quality post-secondary options.
HISTORY: The Newark Trust for Education launched in January 2011 as an independent organization focused on expanding opportunity and improving
educational outcomes for public school students in Newark. From 2011 to 2015, the Trust endeavored to provide honest information/data, convene key stakeholders, and influence educational decisions critical to the success of all students. In the fall of 2015, after the departure of the founding Executive Director, an Interim Director led the Trust while the organization underwent a comprehensive assessment that deeply engaged the Board of Trustees, resulting in a clear set of priorities. A new Executive Director joined the Trust on a full-time basis in January 2017 and is tasked with developing the Trust as the premier educational backbone organization in Newark.
