Grantmaking

The Funders’ Collaborative for High-Quality School Options is a network of local, regional, and national funders committed to providing high-quality public school options for all Newark students. In partnership with the governing body of the Education Sub-committee of the Newark Funders’ Group, an extension of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, the Newark Trust for Education is responsible for managing and ensuring the success of the Funders’ Collaborative.

The Collaborative supports the design, creation, and sustainability of high quality school options by aligning philanthropic investments with district strategy for maximum impact. Since its inception in 2011, the Funders’ Collaborative has allocated over $5 million to support a variety of innovative schools and programs across the district, including model and ReNew schools. As an additional benefit, the Collaborative also establishes a vehicle and framework that aligns, focuses, and coordinates resources to improve school quality and foster a mutually supportive learning community of school leaders across the district.

The Collaborative is currently focused on social-emotional learning and trauma informed supports.
