The Newark Trust extends our heartfelt congratulations to all of the fine young men who earned their Eagle Academy Tie at the Tie Ceremony held on Saturday, November 1. Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark is a Newark District Public School, located at Historic Weequahic High School.

The school's motto-"Nothing Given. Everything Earned" was brought to life in front of a packed auditorium of parents, community members, supporters, and civic leaders. It is difficult to say what moment of the program was the most inspiring or moving. From beginning to end, person to person, everything about Eagle Academy makes your heart soar! Principal Thompson and Mr. Owens invite all of the men in the audience to come to the front of the auditorium and they each pair with a student. The men then help the young men put on their ties. It is one of the most symbolic, emotional, and dare we say, sacred moments imaginable.

Among the speakers was Rashon K. Hasan, Chair of the Newark Public School Advisory Board, David Banks, Eagle Academy Founder and Foundation President, Principal Vaughn Thompson, Mr. Thomas Owens, parents, students, as well as an Eagle graduate who is now a student at West Point. We are so proud to assist the Eagle Family in their efforts to soar!
