The Newark Trust for Education is excited to announce the first Safe and Supportive Schools Citywide Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a cocktail reception following. This special event is an opportunity for stakeholders to:

  • Share local and national best practices on whole school/district wide approaches to trauma-informed care and social emotional learning.
  • Network across sectors and wards.
  • Engage with like minds around the notion that social emotional competencies and trauma have an impact on learning.
  • Learn about the positive work being done in Newark Public Schools. 

SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS

Key Note: Hear national expert Jonathan Cohen, of Teachers College Columbia University and the National School Climate Center, speak about approaches schools can use to create positive conditions for learning that support academic achievement.

Break Out Sessions: Listen to local school leaders share their experiences with implementing evidence-based SEL practices.

Panel Discussion: Engage with local experts, district leaders and service providers as they discuss whole-school approaches to Safe and Supportive Schools.

Cocktail Reception: Mingle with school and district leaders, funders, service providers and other local and national stakeholders.
